How to Resize a page using Lumapix 4.3

Resize Instructions Lumapix 4.3:

Open the page in Lumapix

Right click the pasteboard area and select canvas size

In the canvas size window select the CYS Album Manufacture Settings (these are found in the flyout menu)

The page size should automatically size to 8.5 X 11

The type safety should automatically set to 0.5, 0.25, 05, 0.5 (you may need to change the type safety depending on the page you are working on – odd or even please see attachment)

The bleed should automatically set to 0.125, 0.125, 0.125, 0.125 (see attachment)

Select OK and say yes when asked if you want to resize the page

When rendering a page please make sure to select from the drop down menu “render canvas + bleed.” You may also select the “sharpen reduced images” option. No other boxes should be selected.

Set the bleed inflate by to 0

Select OK and say yes when asked if you want to resize the page

When rendering a page please make sure that the “show crop mark” option is not selected.

Only the “sharpen reduced images” option should be selected

Setting a Lumapix Page to Black and White

Setting a Lumapix page to black and white:

Open your Lumapix page, create your page, before rendering select all frames (Ctrl + A) or click and drag your mouse across the page so all frames are selected.

In the floating tool bar select the “Frame Image” option. This will open the Image menu. Change the B&W setting to 1 and select okay. This will convert all of your images to black and white.

If you have a background layer you will need to select the background layer and repeat the steps above. Remember to design all text as black and white.

This will create an RGB black and white. CYS will then take this too grayscale and provide the school with a proof.

Activating Lumapix 4.3

Step One:

You can visit http://www.lumapix.com to access the most current version or http://www.lumapix.com/web_downloads/downloads_olderversions.shtml to locate and download any previous versions of the software that may have been recommended by your sales representative.

Step Two:

Once you have downloaded and installed the software you will need to activate the product. To do so, please follow the steps below:

Open Lumapix
Click “Help” on the menu bar (you may need to close the opening screen first)
Click “Activate FotoFusion” and choose the “Activate Online” option
Enter your email address when prompted (please use the e-mail address associated with your publication agreement)
If asked for a password and/or computer name enter “yearbook”

Step Three:

After registering your software, you want to ensure that you are running the program in its “Enhanced” mode. To do this, click on the button located in upper right corner, it will read one of the following, “Scrapbook”, “Enhanced” or “Extreme”. Click once and select “Run As” you can now choose the Enhanced version from the three options.

How to Batch A Folder Of Images

Launch and open Photoshop

Before you can batch a fold of images you will first need to create an Action to record all of your steps and the changes you want to make to the images. To do this you will need to set-up an Action.

To set-up an Action open a single image that you wish to make changes too.

File open >> browse to and select your image.

Then open up the Actions pallet under Window >> Actions

From the Actions pallet choose >> New Action from the fly-out menu (little black triangle), name your action so you can reference it again and select record.

Now work your way through the steps and changes you want to apply to the images.

You can set-up many types of Actions, a few examples are: changing images to gray scale, changing images sepia or applying feathering or drop shadow affects. Once you have finished editing your image stop recording (found at the bottom of the Actions pallet).

You have now have set-up, recorded and saved your Action to reference later. You can discard or save the working image if you wish.

To Batch an entire fold of images go to File>> Automate >> Batch.

Under the play option select the Action you just finished creating.

Under source select the folder you want to apply the action too.

Select Ok to Batch all of your images. Remember that if there is a large amount of images in your folder this could take several minuets or longer.

How To Resize An Image Using Photoshop

Even images taken form the best digital camera set to the best setting may need tweaking before you place them on your yearbook page; especially if you are working in a program like InDesign or Microsoft Publish.

After you download your images from your digital camera to your computer open the image(s) using Photoshop.

Go to Image >> Image size >> please make sure you are working in inches.

>> Take note of the Document Size, the width and height. Usually the image will be quite large. (Example 11.2 W X 8.4 H) but the resolution may be less then 300dpi.

>> If the image resolution is less then 300dpi you will need to adjust your image.

>> Choose the Constrain Proportions option and deselected the Resample Image option.

>> In the Resolution box type in 300

>> Notice how the image size changes? An image with an original size of 11.2W X 8.4H and a dpi of 230 will now become 8.587 W X 6.44 W when we change the resolution to 300dpi.

>> Select Okay and save your image.

If you have recently downloaded LumaPix 4.3 and cannot select the “entire canvas + bleed” option or the “show crop mark” option please use the following link to resolve the problem.

PhotoShop Page Size Settings

If your yearbook club/class uses Photoshop to create their yearbook page layouts please follow the instructions below:

To Make A New Document

1) Open up PhotoShop and choose File >>> New. Be sure that you are working in Inches

2) In the New window change the width to 8.75 and the height to 11.25 and set the resolution to 300 pixels/inch (or more). Colour mode can be CMYK or grayscale and background you can choose white or transparent

3) Go to View >> Rulers to make sure they are turned on

4) Go to View >> New Guide. In the new Guide window choose horizontal and in the position box type 0.375

5) Repeat step 4 but choose vertical for your guide option

6) The New Guide option will only put guides on two sides of your page, you will need to use your judgment and add in the other two guides on the two remaining sides of the page

** Be sure that no type is placed outside of these guides and no heads on photographs are placed outside of these guides. It is okay to have background or bleeding images go past, in fact you want them to bleed off the page.

Please flatten all layers (you may want to keep an unflattened layered version of the file on your computer incase changes are required later) and save them as JPEG’s.

For Double Page Spreads

Your document size or canvas size should be changed to 17.25 W X 11.25 H. Using 300 resolution and setting up guides to 0.375 vertical and horizontal as noted above
